Sondereggers Plan to Leave A Legacy

John SondereggerNorthwest Community Hospital Foundation trustee emeritus John Sonderegger says, "There's going to be a time when we won't be around anymore. And we want to leave a legacy." John and his wife, Bea, formed a Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) many years ago for the express purpose of leaving gifts to some of the most significant organizations in their lives: their church, their alma mater, and Northwest Community Hospital. Longtime Hospital supporters and Arlington Heights residents, John and Bea regard their CRT as another aspect of their support for Northwest Community, in addition to a generous annual gift.

A retired VP and controller of International Minerals & Chemical Corp., John is a thoughtful person who appreciates the practical advantages of a CRT. The Sondereggers established the CRT with a gift of appreciated property. A portion of that gift gave them an income tax deduction. Over their lifetime, they will receive prescribed income from the CRT. After death, the designated charities will receive the remaining principal of the CRT. Beneficiaries can be changed at any time. John says, "It's a device people ought to look at."

While tax and income advantages are not lost on them, the Sondereggers' central motivation for making the Hospital a beneficiary of their CRT is a heartfelt desire to give. They are deeply committed to quality healthcare for their home community of nearly a half-century. As John says, "We've been blessed with the ability to give, and we feel strongly that we need to share our blessings."
